If God is for Us…

The Son of God – who died and is now risen – sits at the right hand of God the Father where he ever lives to make intercession. If God is for us, who can be against us?

Heirs with Christ

We continue through Romans beginning this morning at chapter 8 verse 12. We are the children of God and if children then also heirs with Christ. Hear now the Gospel!

Life in the Spirit

“For God has done… what the law could not do. By sending his own Son… in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us,”

Paul writes some long sentences and I have abbreviated Romans 8:3-4 into a summary of the full passage. Click here to read verses 1-11 or click the play button below and I will read it out loud.

Look at Jesus

I almost forgot to record my sermon at the GMBA annual meeting. As I was reading the text, I realized I had opened the voice recorder on my phone but never hit the button. As soon as I finished reading this text I started the recording. Read Matthew 14:22-33 and then click play.

22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat by this time was a long way from the land beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

The Law of God

Our spirit contends with our flesh and Paul describes his mind following the law of God while his flesh keeps the law of sin.

Free from the Law

The clearest, most concise response from scripture for the 10 Commandment/Sabbath is Saturday/can’t eat pork/Hebrew roots crowd. Paul responded to the Judaizers in his letter to the Galatians but Romans 7 explains why we are dead to the law.

Choose Carefully Who You Serve

Serve sin and earn the wages of death; or serve righteousness and the gift of God is eternal life. Up to you.

Life and Death

This sermon is a little short but as I recover from being sick I am trying to prevent another episode like last week. Romans 6 begins with describing how being dead to sin makes us alive to God through Christ. Let’s look at it.

Life in Christ

Full disclosure, I might not should have tried to preach this morning. I was not coughing before the service started and I have not continued since it ended, but trying to sing and preach triggered a response. I feel better than this recording sounds.

Adam and Jesus are both firsts of a time; death came through Adam but life comes through Jesus Christ.

Peace with God

Some well known passages of scripture in today’s text. “The love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit” sounds awesome but certainly more well known is “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
