Rachel Miller passed in the early hours of Friday, January 24th. She was an active member of this church and in the community for many years. Reprinted here is her obituary courtesy of Thomas Funeral Home in Calhoun.
Rachel Ray Miller, age 84 of Plainville, GA, passed away on January 24, 2025, at Morning Pointe Assisted Living.
She was born on October 8, 1940, daughter of the late Charles Robert Ray and Maudie Harris Ray. In addition to her parents, Rachel was also preceded in death by her husband Jack Miller; two brothers, Charles Ray and Jim Ray; and three sisters, Ruth Wilson, Eunice Carmack, and Ruby Ray. Rachel dedicated many years of her life to education, serving as a teacher at Gordon Central High School. She later found fulfillment in volunteering at Redmond Regional Hospital. Education was a cornerstone of her life, and she proudly earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia. She was devoted member of Unity Baptist Church, Rachel valued her faith and the community she found within it.
Rachel is survived by her son, Jim Miller; and her brother, Roy Ray.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 31st at 1pm from the Unity Baptist Church in Plainville. With Rev. Clark Bunch officiating. Burial will follow in Scott Cemetery with Rev. Mitch Phillips in charge of graveside services.
The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon January 30th from 5 until 7 pm.
She will lie in state at the church on Friday, January 31st from 12 noon until the funeral hour.
Rachel Ray Miller will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her passion for teaching, and her heartfelt service to others.
